Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

I’ve been wanting to change the detergent I use since a while now. The amount of plastic I was producing was bothering me, that’s why I’ve decided to change it.

Homemade detergent it’s not only cheaper and better for the enviromtent but also much better for us!

Since a while I try not to buy anything that was tasted on animals or it’s not vegan. Sometimes it means you have to pay more.

The detergent I used to buy costed me around 7$ and lasted for about a month. That gives us 0.23$ per load.

All the ingredients for homemade detergent costed me around 25$. The price per batch is 2.91$ and it will last for 72 loads!

That means 0.04$ per load!

0.23$ vs 0.04$!

Better for the environment

Because you are buying in bigger packages products that will last you longer, you automatically produce less waste.

You use less of the plastic packaging!

Better for you

Because all of the ingredients are natural you don’t have to worry about chemicals.

That’s a warning on one of really popular dishwasher detergents.

It sounds pretty scare to me. And think that whatever is in those tablets is on your plates, pans, glasses. Things that you drink from, eat from.. You don’t want to have on them anything that is harmful for your body.

It all matters. If it’s on your dishes, it will get into your system with food or liquids. It will not be washed off just because it’s rinsed.

And here are the warnings on Baking Soda and Super Washing Soda.

The rest of the ingredients is eatable and not harmful 🙂

What will you need:

– 1 cup Super Washing Soda
– 1 cup Baking Soda
– 1 cup Citric Acid
– 1/2 cup Salt
– few drops of favorite essential oil (*optional)

Simply mix all the ingredients and store in a glass container. The container has to be closed tightly, if you will get moisture in it will start getting really hard!

Let me know if you’ve tried it and how it works for you!
